Jared Michael Lemon, 43, was found guilty following a trial after an acquaintance found disturbing images on his phone that were reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

According to the Calvert County State's Attorney's Office, in late 2022, a friend of Lemon's found questionable photos on his phone, prompting an investigation by members of Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of the Maryland State Police, who searched his devices.

An investigation into those electronics led to the discovery of 59 images of children under the age of 16 engaged in sexual conduct, prosecutors said. He was charged in connection to five of them.

At the time he was busted, Lemon was an active-duty officer of the US Capitol Police Department. He was suspended following his indictment and further action is pending by the Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility.

Lemon was convicted on Friday of five counts of unlawful possession of child pornography.

The Owings resident is scheduled to be sentenced in July when he will face up to 25 years in prison and a $12,500 fine.
